1) What are some very important historical events in Spain?

2) What are the holidays in Spain that are of national significance?

3) Are there any symbols associated with the national holidays?

4) How often do students get days off during the school year?

5) What do you do during these holidays?

Thank you for answering our questions!

Hello!

My name is Gabriel Rodríguez and I'm studying for being an English Primary Teacher. I have studied a Biochemistry degree and I usually work as a higschool teacher; but I would like to improve my English and work with little children too, maybe abroad.

I have read you post and your questions about Spanish events. I'll try to answer it.

1) What are some very important historical events in Spain?

Some dates:

-1492, Spanish ships arrived to America. Good day for Spanish people, bad day for Native American people.

-1808-1814. War against France (Napoleon's dudes).

-1931. Second Republic in Spain (The word "republican" has a very different sense in Spain and in America. In Spain, it means "the people that prefer a political system without a king". That's all).

-1936-1939. Civil war in Spain. Hitler's friends won the war. Very uncool.

-1951. Spain joins UN.

-1975. Franco (former dictator)died.

-1978. Spanish people aproved the Constitution. The beginning of freedom in Spain.

-1986. Spain joins European Union.

2) What are the holidays in Spain that are of national significance?

The National Party is 12th October. It's like your 4th July. We remember the date that Spanish ships arrived to America in 1492.

The other National Party is the 6th December. It's the date that Spanish people aproved the current Constitution in 1978.

3) Are there any symbols associated with the national holidays?

The relationship between Spanish people and our national symbols is very complicated. It could be very extrange for non Spanish people, but in Spain there is a big part of the people that doesn't like the flag or the anthem; and there are some reasons that makes people think in this way.

4) How often do students get days off during the school year?

The students have holydays in Christmas(twenty days) Semana Santa (ten days in April more or less) and summer (two months). It's nice, isn't it?

5) What do you do during these holidays

I like making trips with my friends. I have been in India during my last holidays. I think that it's the funniest way of learning.

If you're interested in literacy or trips, you can have a look to my blog; and if you want to know more about Spain, I'll try to answer any question.

Regards from Spain.

Hi! I´m Alberto Rodríguez (www.canhacazurra.blogspot.com) and I´m not Gabriel's family. I read the article "El día del Armisticio" and I think that It´s very interesting. Here in Europe the English and French also celebrate the same festivity; in Spain no, because we had suffered a civil war when W.W.II started and we had a dictatorship for 30 years.
We have a lot of festivities in Spain, but the most part of them are related with religion (Catholicism). An important national festivity is "El día de la Hispanidad" something like "The Spanish day", 12th October, It commemorates when Cristobal Colón arrived in South America, where It´s celebrated too.

Hi!
Firts of all, thank you to answer our questions. I'm Paula of the group of canacazurra too. Your article is really interesting!!
So I haven't got so much more to say, in the same way that my partners have said, the day that can look like yours, is the 12th of October. In this day, we celebrated the discovery of America by Cristobal Colón and where we celebrate a military parade in the Plaza of Colon of Madrid in which they represent "His Majesty" the King together with the Royal Family and the most important representatives of all the power of the State, besides the majority of the presidents of the Spanish autonomies.

I hope you like my comment!!
Regards :)

Hello guys!!

1) What are some very important historical events in Spain?

My classmates just have answered very good this question, a lot of important dates as 1492 when Spanish ships arrived to America I think that is a very important event in Spain, but for me , the most important is in 1936-1939 "The civil war in Spain" because a lot of people , and a lot of our family died in this war. Many people that lived in this war anda that now aren´t died can tell you a los of things about this hell. It was terrible.

2) What are the holidays in Spain that are of national significance?

There are two dates, in 12th October , is recalled the day when Spanish ships arrived to America; and 6th December because it was when Spanish people approved the treaty on the constitución.

3) Are there any symbols associated with the national holidays?

I think that no, there aren´t symbols associated with the national holidays.
I can´t answer this question because I don´t know so much about it.

4) How often do students get days off during the school year?

During the school year we haven´t got class when there ir a important event as 6th December or 12th October. Then in Christmas, this year since 19th December to 7th January.
When the school year finished we have got nearly three months of holidays, altough it depends if your are at university or if for example you are at Primary School, etc. ...

5) What do you do during these holidays?

Normally, I usually work in Holidays with children , also at weekends I work in this way as monitor of free time. I like this job so much because I love children.
But also If I can , I like to go abroad with my friends or go to the islands as "Canarias" or "Baleares" in Spain. I love the beach and to swim so much. The summer is perfect for me, I don´t like the winter, in Leon is very cold.

I´ll try to answer your questions , I hope to answer it well ;)

Greetings! :)
